In 1986, Laurie Utterberg, the "Sunglass Lady" began selling sunglasses at various boat shows from coast to coast. She was first introduced to the Lake Erie Islands area when she exhibited at the Cedar Point Boat Show. A visit to South Bass Island, also known as Put-In-Bay, made it clear to her that a sunglass shop was a necessity on the island. Her vision became a reality thanks to native islanders and other local business owners. The original "Sunglass Hut" still stands today on Delaware Avenue, behind the Boat House Bar & Grill! Anne Spettel came on board soon after her first visit to "the Bay" Hence, "The Sunglass Ladies" came to be. The Sunglass Ladies pride themselves in catering to the individual needs of each sunglass shopper. Whether it be boating, biking, golfing, sunbathing, driving, or walking, we have the glass for you. The Ladies are extremely knowledgeable in lens options and frame quality! Their specialty is Polarized Lenses which remove the glare off water and snow. Put-In-Bay is thriving from Early May to late October. As cold weather sets in, The Sunglass Ladies are anxious to get to warmer climates. After attending the Cleveland Boat Show in January, they can be found exhibiting at any number of events in Florida, including the Palm Beach Boat Show, Key West Boat Show and The Dania Nautical Flea Market.
